Judge John Hodgman Ep. 143: Namer vs. Namer

Josh brings the case against his wife Jackie. They each kept their respective surnames when they married, and now can't decide on a last name for their future children. Should the kids take their mom or dad's last name, combine them, or take on a brand new appellation? Only one man can decide.

I thought JJHO and the bailiff did a real good job wrangling this couple into parameters where they could discuss the problem seriously. There was a risk of this trial just falling on its face, as the husband hadnt prepared any serious arguments, and the wife was for the first time being exposed to JJHO. I love how the best show is referenced, although rarely outright, on JJHO, and this time David Rees was the Tom Waits hater. I remember one time Jessie referring to, but not naming, Tom as a garrison keillor hater. Speaking of the best show, jessie's outshout on the best show was amazing. Judge John Hodgman really makes the best with what he's given, and can elevate any debate or discussion. It's a real pleasure to hear (this podcast)!
