About Jesse's mom...

She's disappointed that he isn't gay...disappointed that he didn't do drugs...

Jesse's mom is Edina Monsoon?

Jordan mentioned the cheapness of the BBC TV version of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and that it was a bit like the cheapness of old Doctor Who. Spot on. Adams wrote for, and script edited Doctor Who at one stage. Neil Gaiman's book about the history of Hitchhikers recounts that the TV show was pretty much a battle between Adams and the director Alan JW Bell, Bell on the side of making it look Sci-Fi and Star Wars, Adams on the side of making it look campy and Doctor Who. Marvin The Paranoid Android ended up as a robotty-looking robot thanks to Bell, where Adams wanted Marvin to be an old man in a rubbish robot costume spray-painted gold.

I went to a Phish show in 1998 in Nashville where they brought out a bunch of old bluegrass guys to jam for a while, and towards the end of the show Winona Judd came out. She said she'd just finalized her divorce papers earlier that day, then sang "Freebird". Whatever you're thinking about how tedious Phish covering Freebird might be, it was incredible.

And Jesse, I would like to organize a Skyrim championship. We can race to be the first to harvest like 20 pounds of thistle.

I'm always baffled when this comes up on shows: does anyone actually think its hard to take a bra off? It was pretty easy the last time I did it, and I'm pretty dumb.

Yes, teens.

But that's just it, the last time I took a bra off I was a teen.

Edit: I . . . Could have worded this better.

I can't speak to strategic bad smells at Street Fighter tournaments, but once I was at a Magic: the Gathering tournament (world renowned for being the worst-smelling rooms on Earth), and someone commented on how this place smelled even more rank than usual. I swear to god, another guy said "Yeah, that's probably me. I never shower for three days before a big tournament. Mind games, man. Mind games."

The problem is that nerds are immune to that shit, like Wesley and iocane powder.

Man, I wish. I'll tell you one good thing about going to a big Magic: the Gathering tournament: it sure makes you feel a whole lot better about yourself.

As great as the guests always are, my favorite JJGo episodes are the ones where it's just Jordan and Jesse. The chemistry between them is just amazing, and having somebody else there tends to throw it off.

I have to disagree with you. While Jordan and Jesse have spectacular chemistry, a witty and smart guest who is prepared to play along always makes for a better show in my opinion (for example, see Rob Corddry in ep. 178 or 217, or any Nick Adams appearance.) Although at some point you would no doubt see diminishing returns, I think it is pretty safe to say that generally the more amazing comedic minds you have in the room, the better.

Douglas Adams was definitely some kind of genius, I loved the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books so much as teenager. And the HHGTTG radio series was so good as well. But then again, I also really enjoyed the movie adaption with Tim from the UK Office and Mos Def Mos Deffing-it around, which wasn't received particularly well.

On the subject of funny books, I feel like I have to argue in favour of Ben Elton. For those not familiar, he is the guy behind some great British comedies like Blackadder (I know Jordan hates it, but I am a huge fan; anything Stephen Fry is involved in is gold in my book) and The Young Ones. He has written a whole bunch of funny books, I would suggest 'Stark' for anyone interested in testing him out. However, in the interests of full disclosure, Ben Elton does (sometimes) live near me, and I have seen him in Fremantle (Western Australia) many times, so I may have some subconscious bias.

Also, great to hear the London show went well, I thought it was hilarious and was surprised to hear so little from the audience!

The horse jumping thing did look so difficult. Just getting through the round in the 75 seconds seemed like a challenge. I was a little disappointed that the TV coverage only showed the ones who were doing really well, because it would have been nice to see a range of performances to put things in perspective. Even the best of the best seemed to be having a difficult time with those agitated horses.

I'm sorry to hear Donna got thrown! Will she come back on the show one last time to talk about her experience in London? I'd love that!
