I definitely spent a bit of time yelling "Angels in the Outfield!" at my car stereo.

I read some Archie Comics this week! But they were a collection of stories from the 1940s, because I'm apparently trying to invent a new kind of hipster.

I've only been to one APExpo convention. Found it curious within the small press publishers section the gay comic publishers formed their own subsection but were very welcome amongst all the attendees. No great costumes either.

Also, I listened to the Prince song Jughead today.

So that was me who gave Jesse the fuckface card. I was all a titter in my car when he talked about it.

Excellent episode! I always considered Marvel gayer than DC because Northstar from Alpha Flight came out so early, and the existence of Skrulls has always carried the potential for plenty of transgendered canoodling. I'm no expert on recent continuity, though -- maybe Batwoman swings the gay pendulum toward DC? Or maybe there are just more recognizable beefcake dudes in that universe.

I went to Comicon twice in the mid-90s, and it was the most fun I'd ever had (chock full of other punk lesbians--or perhaps just Love and Rockets fans). I think the main appeal of a gay convention, though, would not necessarily be feeling more accepted or anything, but just to hook up with another gay nerd.

Anyway, if I had any say in who gets to be gay icons, I would canonize you both.

I'm not up to date with the back catalogue of JJGO. Could anyone enlighten me as to who these "Worst Guests Ever" web comics duo were?

I just got a message on twitter from a self-professed "gay nerd" who said he's always noticed a gay DC bias. Maybe becasue DC has a bigger tradition of "sidekick" relationships?

Slogan for 2013 should be 'More Love... More Power'.
Cheers from London.

Ha, when it comes to slogans/mottos I was thinking of Jesse's observation that every now and then you run into a 'Herzogian Character' and how he wished there were more of them.

"Be the Herzog you want to see in the world."

- I don't think anything's going to top "Shit Gets Real"

- Alternative/Small Press expos are DEFINITELY where you should go for punk rock (and hipster) lesbians. You absolutely nailed that.

- Dave Hill as part of the Max Fun family? Yessssssssss!

- ON SANTA SUITS: I was at a small town sci fi convention last year, where the "featured" guest was a man who went by the name "Sal Lizard: Vampire Santa". This guy's career is based on playing the same character (Vampire Santa, as it were) in any unrelated B-movie that will have him. I don't know how that is a thing. NOW. Despite the fact that this was a guy who wore fake fangs and solid black contacts and was a solidly creepy 60-something, GIRLS WERE INTO IT AND I DO NOT UNDERSTAND IT. Was it the Santa suit? MAYBE. Here is an actual picture from the after party (which I am so so so glad I did not go to): http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-a ... 5045_n.jpg
