Helen spent 14 hours on a train and eight on an airplane to be on this episode. The least you can do is have something nice to say about it.

Well, okay.
I liked this episode! And the Internet informs me that Helen Zaltzman's brother Andy Zaltzman of the Bugle. That's a funny family!

In transatlantic cultural terms, this is the greatest moment since Boy George was a guest on Miami Vice.
If Max Fun had adopted The Bugle that would have been the greatest act of international assistance since the Marshall Plan.
I love Jordan, Jesse Go! I love Helen Zaltzman (and her brother Andy), I live in England and heard Helen talking to Jesse for the Guardian podcast about a frankly alarming threat to the whole of podcasting from stupid, greedy bastards. Jesse never sounded more serious. I thought 'Hang on, if Helen's gone all the way to America, why doesn't she guest on her old International Waters pals podcast?' And now she has. Thanks all involved. Lovely episode. I'm old enough to remember Laroquette on Night Court which did show on the Beeb. He was very sarcastic. I think we only saw one series in the mid-eighties. It was great, I think.
Keep it up J, J and H. Those trolls will never bring you down. Although they might.
Arm yourselves for the great fight. Jordan can pretend it's a one-to-one fantasy combat game, Jesse could imagine he's wrestling with an unbuckled spat, and Helen, being English, had best not think about it.

Great show, but Jesse went off the rails a little with his awkward jokes about looking like a starving african baby with a swollen belly and flies in his eyes. It wasn't tasteless-funny, it was just...tasteless. You're not a shock-jock, Jesse, don't pretend to be one, especially not about a topic that's really not funny on any level.

Jesse forgot to mention that the man who designed Love Park and protested the banning of skateboarding there was Kevin Bacon's father.

Here are some things I 100% agree with Jesse Thorn about: - Gilmore Girls - All Aaron Sorkin shows except Sports Night - Parenthood
Because if there's one thing I hate more than fast-talking/almost-clever dialogue, it's dialogue where everyone's talking over each other all the time.

I thought Helen was hilarious, and the guests lately have been really top-notch in general! My partner knits while watching Parenthood almost every day lately, and from an outsider's standpoint, I can't figure out why the characters are yelling over each other all the time, nor what they're yelling about. The one episode I did watch filled me with tenderness and made me cry almost immediately--not what I watch TV for!

Did I mention on-air how great Dax Shepard is in Parenthood? He's easily the best castmember.

Clever dialogue that doesn't meet a high-level of standards often comes off as too cutesy and/or lacking some sense of self-awareness. Or maybe it just comes off as lacking in general. Strangely with this, you have some alternate form of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon here: Lauren Graham of Gilmore Girls + Peter Krause of Sports Night = both on Parenthood

Now that the subject of singing to cats has been broached on JJGO I think that Marc Gunn's albums for cat lovers needs to be brought to everyone's attention. I've been listening to Marc's various podcastsfor years and while they are lacking in dick jokes bawdy songs are frequently featured.
