There is a great deal at the McSweeney's Store online where you can get a bundle of ten back issues of the Believer for $20. My roommate did this, it was a great treat (usually they are eight bucks).

Check it, if you wanna be smart and awesome and read things on heavy cardstock:

Isn't the Believer the magazine that always has columns by people like Zach Galifanakis? And Patton Oswalt interviewing Aimee Mann? And interviews with Beck? Seems pretty topical and relevent to me.

But it was a good show, probably the best in a while.

Those columns, etc, are relatively timeless, though. Not always tied to a release or something. They also do a lot of stuff about older literature.

Yes! I only realized that when the conversation turned to Lapland (or Lappland). Those crazy samis with their reindeer blood and four-foot healers!

Bias Cut.
That's a pretty good definition, with a diagram and everything. Madeleine Vionnet was a pioneer of bias cutting in the 20s and 30s, andthe cover of this book about her gives you a pretty good visual idea of how fabric drapes when it is cut on the bias.

For any and all clothing construction questions, I'm your woman.

Good show. I've heard good things about The Believer but haven't had any firsthand experience with it. I think I will be availing myself of that cheap back issues deal (thanks rachellander!)

Her name is so fun to say. How did you get through the show without saying "Vendela Vida!" ten times in a row?
