The m4a format doesn't work on my mp3 player, and it's much nicer to just get episodes from the feed. It would be a shame if I always had to manually download each episode.

Don't worry, this is a one-time thing. Because of the subject matter.

I really liked this use of the technology.

I would love most of the podcasts I like to at least use the chapter markers. But that must add more time/energy to producing one podcast then it's worth.

Yeah, between this and the Bugle I've committed to offering an m4a feed of my upcoming podcast. One icon for program notes and interstitial material and others for the content.

Are the mechanics of it pretty simple? Do you have to use Apple software to pull it off?

That said (and asked) I really enjoyed this episode. Upon seeing the book on Amazon I felt really bad for the people within it, but hearing its creators have such tenderness and respect for these unique individuals was really nice. It seems like they have the same curatorial approach to unusual talents as Tim and Eric.

Could you get the Kentucky (Tennessee?) Stressbuster on JJGo?

As far as I know, the only software that can do it is Garage Band. That's why Adam had to help me make this one.

I really enjoyed this episode. The enhanced features were perfectly applied. I would certainly appreciate more efforts like this in the future if similar subjects come up.

I figured it would probably be something like that, since m4a is a proprietary Apple format. I've got friends who run Mac, though, so maybe I could get one of them to do the formatting for that filetype. Good to know, thanks.

To be clear, .m4a is not an Apple proprietary format. It's a multimedia container format based on Apple's Quicktime container, but released as an ISO standard as part of the MPEG-4 specification. The .m4a extension typically denotes an MPEG-4 container containing only audio. This can be a variety of formats, but the most common is AAC (which is an audio format commonly believed to have been created by and owned by Apple, though this is not true).

That said, the bulk of the tools people use to create enhanced podcasts are Mac tools, such as Garageband, Podcaster, or Profcast.

BUT, there is a handy tool called Slideshow Assembler that is made for Windows and can be used to create enhanced podcasts. A good tutorial for using it can be found here.

So long as you have iTunes and set the View to Show Artwork, the enhanced features work on iTunes just fine -- and iTunes is still relatively free.

I'm listening/watching now.
