I've been a big fan of Greg Kot for a while. He is receptive to all types of music and does a very good job with his reviews. Additionally, I find the business side of music to be very interesting. Great interview Jesse.

I think that people who make the argument that free online music promotes live music underestimate the extent to which free online music competes with live music. Kot says that live performances are one thing that can't be experienced fully online, and that's true, but there are also enough advantages to just listening to your own music collection that my experience is that it's pretty difficult to get people to come out to local clubs for music, even if there's no cover charge.

My mind is blown...

For some reason, I had incorrectly put the voices to the pictures of the hosts of Sound Opinions

Now that I know who is who, my view of Greg Kot is pretty much the same, but somehow, the mind of Jim DeRogatis takes on a whole new dimension.

I enjoyed this interview, but it (and also to some extent the Chris Anderson stuff as well) felt a lot like well done summaries of stuff that I already knew.

I'm curious if the subjects discussed were actually as obvious as they felt to me, or if that's a result of me being more the type of person who pays a lot of attention already to the death of the music industry and to the ways folks are trying to make money online.

Also, the Sting/Lutes stuff was great, it felt a lot like the Dan Kennedy TSoYA to me in that it made me want to hear Kot on JJGo.
