What about Sarah Brown, editor of Cringe: Teenage Diaries, Journals, Notes, Letters, Poems, and Abandoned Rock Operas? It's similar to the book Mortified that came out a few years ago, excerpts from teenage diaries and stuff. I think the British version of the book just came out. Brown has a prety popular blog, also http://queserasera.org

Sorry if this has been suggested before, but I really like singer/songwriter Erin McKeown and she's about to start a tour to promote her new album, 'Hundreds of Lions', so she might be gettable. I went to college with her and have her manager's email address so if you're interested but have trouble getting in touch I might be able to help out. Her website's at http://www.erinmckeown.com/ .

And possibly, Zach Galifianakis.

Jesse,
As a fan of hip-hop, you might like this video http://vimeo.com/7048565
I would love to hear Themselves talk about instructing hip-hop classes in the bay area on a future episode of TSOYA. Also, they have a new album out very soon.

Realistically - You really need to interview Jon Glaser, he wrote and performed for many years on Conan which could be an interview in itself. But it's his new show Delocated on Adult Swim which is really getting him attention as a man in the witness protection program who has his own reality show. Eugene Mirman even stars as a the Russian hitman hired to kill him. Hilarious show all in all, just got renewed for a second season, you all need to get on board.
I would love to see the founder of Vice magazine Shane Smith on the show as well.
Less realisitically - Spike Jonze
Longshot - Andre 3000
ps. Jesse have you ever heard of Nardwuar, he's an interviewer out of Vancouver who's a little eccentric to say the least. He's notorious for his research skills, which are perhaps best exemplified in this Pharrell interview. The guy is good at what he does, I would love to see him on the show.

I must say, Scott's really onto something with the Nardwuar suggestion. I just checked out the video, and then a lot more. He's really fun to watch. I'd be really interested to learn about how he prepares for interviews.

I can't be only person who had never heard of Nardwuar before and assumed his appearance on the Best Show a couple of weeks ago was actually Jon Wurster. An interview with him would be really interesting.

I definitely thought it was Jon at first, but the voice was just different enough that i was suspicious.

I did not expect Nardwuar to be the guest. I definitely squealed at that point of the podcast. You guys should really check out his band, The Evaporators. They are awesome!

Nirvan Mullick of the non-profit The 1 Second Film should be an interesting guest. People who donate $1 or more get a producer credit in his one-second[*] movie. Thus far, he has 11680 producers including Stephen Colbert, Spike Jonze, Charlie Kaufman, and me. All profits will be donated to charity (though i don't know how much that will be). I think it's a neat project worth supporting.
[*] While the film is only one-second, the credits will take over an hour.

Comedian Mary Mack is going to be in LA on November 13. She has similarities to Maria Bamford in that she's from MN, has a high-pitched voice, and is adorable. This video is pretty great.
Edited to add this quote from Mary's last mailing list e-mail:
Quote: Because I am on a quest...well 2 quests: 1) not to go into foreclosure on a house I haven't even closed on yet AND 2) I want a miniature donkey ranch by the time I am 47. Those are my 2 main goals. There's also going to be a cut-your-own Christmas tree farm on my miniature donkey ranch, but the trees I'm not worried about. As long as no one gets em mixed up, riding the trees and cutting the donkeys.
Jesse, if you help Mary fulfill her quest by having her on TSoYA, i'm sure she'd let you frolic with her donks.

I'm not sure if anyone has ever suggested this, but I'd like to throw into the pile Julia Wertz, author of the webcomic The Fart Party and also a really great anthology, I Saw You.

I'd love to hear cartoonist and musician ]James Kochalka on here. He's brilliant, very sweet, and extremely neurotic.

I would highly recommend Ian Svenonius, unless he is threatening to sue you for stealing his song name. I think that interview could cause public radio to implode in a wonderful, wonderful way (and not a Gene Simmons/Terry Gross way).
