Wow. Just...wow. This is the absolute first time I've listed to any of the shows when not either working out or doing household chores. But Vowell? Even apart from her awesome work on this american life, I've read her books at least three times each. I had to at least start listening to take care of my worry that she might not get the humor. I'm about ten minutes in, sleep is starting to be needed, but I'm relieved and delighted that she seems to get it.

But she's already had some really great quips in, and seems really well integrated into the flow. And happy to be there.

I should probably be sad that I'm this excited, but yay! I'm excited! Especially given that Jesse and Jordan both seem as jazzed as I am. If only Gene would drop in at some point, this might well be the best show ever.

I would never admit this in front of Sarah but I was very touched that she specially requested to come in, both to TSOYA a year or so ago, and to JJGo this time. Her stamp of approval really means a lot to me, she is a Real American Hero and a way cool lady.

And, having finished listening, I'd easily place this in my top five episodes. This is the first time I've heard Sarah really riff in real time, but I'd easily add great comedic timing and appreciation to character traits of hers I'd observed.

I'd have a lot more to say about how great the show was, but being almost 4am here it's well past the time when my brain's shut down. All in all though, the episode more than lived up to the high expectations brought to it by the awesome guest.

First time you've heard her riff live? What about that joke about her and Jesse's "burgeoning friend-ship" when she was on TSOYA? That line was absolutely amazing.

I am so glad that my house is a mess right now. I'm going to clean it to hell and back while listening to this.

Hey, cool, I got to sponsor the Sarah Vowell episode!

(This is probably the only time anyone will link to me and Sarah Vowell in the same post.)

Great show! Fun from beginning to end.

You know what I really loved? How SV was up on the JJGO! themes...like Jordan's thriftiness. I can't really recall another guest that wasn't a friend before the show that knew the show like she did. Great fit.

Also, does she have a great voice, or what? It's fun just listening to her talk. She's like Jesse in that way.

I was really feeling the first segment here.

I moved about two months ago, had to furnish almost completely from scratch, and I told myself that I was going to use Ikea for some stuff, but I would not allow myself to do the "Ikea apartment" thing and would find cool furniture from somewhere else.

Then I saw how expensive cool furniture that I wanted was and I thought about how time consuming combing over garage sales and antique whatevers would be, and I completely fucking caved and bought pretty much everything from Ikea.

I mean, it's got clean lines and looks alright together and it's a step up from my post-college student warren dump I used to live in, but it does feel like I lost a battle of some sort with myself

Stay strong, Jordan!

This is the real high point of the show as far as I'm concerned. Sorry, Claude Brodesser-Akner.

I had the same experience with Ikea. I told myself I wouldn't get all Ikea furniture, but then when I realized that I didn't have a single piece of furniture and thus had to buy it all and that if I didn't, I spend $400 for an ugly, shitty table and not get any chairs or I could spend $130 bucks for a reasonable table and four chairs. That sold me. I was confused by their insistence that Ikea stuff is shittily built and made of particle board. Everything I have is solid wood and pretty solid construction. Considering the fact that you have to assemble it, it's not as solid as a nice piece of Stickley, but a new piece of Stickley would cost 20 times as much. Don't even think about what a piece made by Gustav Stickley would cost you. I now find myself with an apartment full of Ikea.

Oh yeah, I was so excited by Sarah's mention of Stickley, they're from my hometown (Syracuse, NY) and I love the shit out of antiques roadshow. Maybe next week someone can mention the other exciting thing made in Syracuse, the Brannock Device, which is that thing they use to measure your shoe size in the shoe store.

Yeah, did someone mention that in the quotes thread? I know it wasn't JJGo! but that was probably one of the best quips in the history of quips.
