Nick Hornby on TSOYA: "Sarah Vowell says that the best relationships she's made are with people who care too much about certain things whether it's politics or music or books or sports as well. I don't really trust people who don't care too much about something... that not everyone cares about."

My new personal motto: I don't care very much for people who don't care too much.

I thought this was a really good interview -- not only did Jesse and Nick both seem to be having a good time but I felt like they discussed interesting stuff that probably wouldn't come up in other interviews. A real home run.

(OK, and the frequent mention of Swamp Dogg didn't hurt.)

I don't know how he does it, but every interview Nick Hornby gives is seriously great---funny, insightful, informative. Amazing.

Your interviews with Nick Hornby are really amazing, Jesse. They showcase everything that is good and true and intimate about your casual interviewing style, much like your interviews with Sarah Vowell. I hope that you include the exchange about your preparation for the show in demo reels and such.

I was kind of hoping for a Hornby reprise on JJGo. I am trying to think of any other guest who is simultaneously more famous and more awesome. maybe it is a wash between Hornby and Vowell, since she is more awesome but he is perhaps more well known.

I can't hear anything about Nick Hornby without thinking about the time he yelled at me at a book signing for accidentally calling him Hornsby. I realize a book tour is a stressful thing, but it really was an accident.

Let it go, ugtv. He overreacted and he's probably sorry.

Man, me too. I only recently listened to that one, and I'd probably put it in my top 5 (no reference intended). He really works well with J&J.

I don't let go of anything easily. Although I should cut him a little slack. Douglas Adams was pissed that no one came to his signing so he said almost nothing to me, but then was super nice when I saw him on the following tour. With all this book talk you'd think I actually read.

I just finished Juliet, Naked. Read the whole thing today- it was slow at work, plus from page 72 on there really is no stopping. I'm a bit overwhelmed. I have not demolished a book so quickly or with such fervor in years. I have not so earnestly connected with fictional characters in at least as long. It was wonderful- my favorite Hornby novel so far. Consider this the Natalie Stamp of Awesome.

I just listened to episode 76 of JJGo. Hornby still beating that same unfunny drum in 2008 about how no one gets his name right. The same drum he hit me with in 2002.
