So Dr. Cocktail is working on Boardwalk Empire out in Brooklyn this year, and can't come to MaxFunCon. He recommended but one man to replace him, and I've just confirmed he'll be providing our drinks. His name is Aidan Demarest, and he worked on the cocktail menus for the best bars in LA (Seven Grand, The Edison, The Spare Room, etc), he travels all over the country doing food & wine events, and is a really nice guy... as well as a long-time improviser at the IO West.

Here's a little LA Weekly article about him.

We'll miss Ted, but Aiden should be a great substitute.

My friends take me to the Spare Room almost every time I come to LA (in the last 6 months anyway), and they have a great menu. Awesome news!

I didn't know Ted was working on Boardwalk Empire. Kudos to him!

Phew. As a cocktail nerd I'm glad there will still be fancy libations for us to enjoy.

yeah, I actually wondered whether the liquid part of the celebrations had to be smuggled in, which would be tough for those of us coming long distances. I should have realized that Jesse would have this well in hand, and even be operating on an entirely higher standard of aspiration...

Even on second appearance, I would not hesitate to refer to MFC as "surprisingly boozy," not least because of our teetotalling impresario.

And yes, whenever anyone at MFC does anything you enjoy, you may tip that person by placing money into their nametag. During Sunday lunch we all dump out our nametags and see who's the best person.

No.

Are we allowed to tell him we love him for making drinks?

Yes.

Also: I should be clearer. You shouldn't tip the bar staff. You should tip the housekeeping staff when you leave.

May I ask the recipe for the brown drink at the pub quiz? It was lovely.

I believe it was an Evelyn Waugh's Noonday Reviver, composed of Guinness, gin and ginger beer, and having one of the more ridiculous/wonderful names for a cocktail ever. I think it's in the running to be named my official drink of summer 2011...

That's definitely the ingredients (Plymouth Gin, Ginger Beer and Guinness). I want to say the bartender said the ratio was 1-2-3 but I might have been having too much fun to remember that correctly.
