THIS WEEK: Special Expert Witness Alton Brown! Ara and her mom Julia enjoy some mother-daughter bonding time while canning, but Ara insists on following USDA safety manuals, books, and other advice to make sure their canned goods are 100% safe. Julia says Ara's meticulous methods are driving her nuts, and they should rely on her own tried-and-true methods. It's a culinary clash pitting mother against daughter, and only Judge John Hodgman can settle the score! Judge John Hodgman Episode 53: Cannery Row

I really enjoyed this episode, and not just because it was the first I've listened to since becoming a donor. I loved how into the show Alton Brown got. I'd accuse MaxFun of putting on especially good shows for the pledge drive, but MaxFun shows are always great.

I've got to say, Ara and her mother were the worst guests I've heard on the show. All they did was snipe at each other; they had me cringing. Yeesh, thank God or whatever for Judge Hodgman and Alton Brown, who were the saving graces of this episode.

I'd say all their sniping was pretty standard for some mother-daughter relationships despite loving each other very much. I thought this episode was amazing! Makes me proud and happy to be a donor. Also? ALTON BROWN?!?!?! I almost fell over from surprise and joy. And then Alton dishing out justice with Judge Hodgman? Fantastic.

Why is it that it's always people with one post who sign up for the forum and whine about people who volunteer their time to come on the show and entertain them?
Yeesh. Give it a rest.
Ara and her mom are a mother and daughter. They love each other and they fight and they laugh about it. Coincidentally, this is the relationship of pretty much everybody that's ever been on our show.

The back-and-forth "revelations" in the salsa story were so hilarious. And that Alton Brown should look into hosting a podcast of his own, he was great. A terrific episode all around.

Is this Alton's first appearance in the MAXFUN-iverse? If so, May I request he be booked for Bullseye?

Hearing Alton Brown and John Hodgman together was the best birthday present I could have ever hoped for. Thank you, Maximum Fun!

Fantastic episode, as usual, but I have to say that I was disappointed that Jesse didn't tell anyone to shut their piehole. If ever there was an episode in which it would have been appropriate, it was this.

Its the best when Jesse starts yelling at people, and then Judge Hodgman yells at Jesse!
