Jesse, this was really great. The perfect storm of a very notable guest and the kind of familiarity that makes asking certain questions a lot easier. The kind of show that makes you wanna smile, for real. I think Patton's latest is his best work yet.

when you brought up the topic of enthusiastship and patton o. went into his own "non-judgemental enthusiasm about things," i got all warm inside. because for me, this is the stuff that maximum fun and (is it an overused expression yet?) the new sincerity is made of, and by extension, what nerdhood is made of. unabashed appreciation for the awesome, with no second thought as to who's watching.
i've been enthusiastic about a great many things in my life, but this is only the second time i've gone on the nerd forums about it. the first being in the dawn of the internet in '94 of when The State had a fan forum on AOL, which was still called America Online.
and i guess, going back to when you and jordan were talking about what makes a grown up, i'm thinking it has something to do with when you stop finding things to get all enthused about.

If that's what being a grown-up is, I don't want to be one. I never want to stop looking at the world in wonder, being jazzed about stuff. Like the other day when I found a bootleg of the Superman show they did in NYC a month ago or when I made reservations for Disney World this week or when I think about the final Harry Potter book.
I always want something to look forward to.

I never heard this guy until today, but I've heard the name.
It was a good interview.

Chunklet has Patton's double album 222 (referenced in the interview) along with the Vs. Alcohol ("a drunken insult barrage between Patton and Zach Galifianakis") and the "completely improvised and completely off the cuff" Pennsylvania Macaroni Company EPs on sale together for $30 for a limited time.

Great interview. A lot of what he says about comedy is exactly how I feel about cartooning. If it's not fun and you can't enjoy it while you're learning it and doing it, then why are you doing it? I think that goes for lots of things in life.

Has he written much about comic books or noir? I'd like to hear more of his thoughts, and details on specifics, as these are things I am also enthusiastic about.
And also: ghetto palms on flickr!

In response to how Tom acted when Jesse called him on the Patton O. Edition of "The Best Show." This is the only time I've ever been disgusted with the way Tom treated someone. Ignore him Jesse.

I always like hearing Patton, and it was great to actually have him talking in person instead of on a cellphone describing what he's doing at the time.

Isn't listening to Tom get angry kind of the point a lot of the time? Everyone gets GOMPed. I don't understand the problem with it- can you clarify?

I could be wrong here, give a listen to the "The Best Show" podcast dated 07/12/07 and let me know what you think(The call comes in at around the twenty minute mark. What he said as soon as and after he got Jesse off his phone is what I really didn't like.

Link.
By calling pre-topic, Jesse opened himself up to the full brunt of Tom's wrath. Actually, Tom was pretty nice to Jesse (but not to Jordan).

I listened to the show already- that's why I asked. Sure, Tom acted like sort of a jerk, but, like I said, that's kind of the point. He's always like that, and clearly not fully serious. Anyone who calls the show, especially before a topic is announced, is fully expecting that. Don't get me wrong, but are you a regular Best Show listener?
