The only way to describe this:
Fucking awesome.
When I heard the explanation I wasn't sure how well it would work in that form, but it was absolutely great, especially since I don't really have the opportunity to go to improv shows in person. And I loved the interview, too- I'm kind of a UCB nerd (it's a bit pathetic) and it was super interesting.

Jesse, do you ever fear about getting too nerdy and inside-baseball for your audience?

Yes.
And I'm not sure about how this interview fit into that. Or if anyone will get the improv. We'll see, I guess.

The improv blew me away. Top-notch stuff. I felt the car alarm sketch had a somewhat anti-climactic ending, but that really just drove home the point that, wow, these guys are really improvising!
So is that their actual format when on stage? Story - improv - story - improv?
Man. Bear-batting... Aliens with Romanian accents... Is there some way I can experience more of this greatness without physically being in U.S., I wonder?

I would say that this was not these guys strongest performance improvising, it was everyone's first time doing it for radio in a studio and whatnot. Not that it was bad at all, just sometimes it's even better.
This is a variation on their Asssscat form, where a guest monologuist tells true stories based on a suggestion, then they improvise from that. In this case, there was no guest monologuist (though obviously I shared a story).

I'll have to throw my two cents in and say this was an awesome show, too. The car alarm bit, where it asked philosophical questions before telling perps to step away... classic. Better than a lot of written comedy.
I've seen the UCB here in New York several times and they are always great. I think the only thing lacking in this radio improv was live audience laughter, which seems to be a pretty important guide to where the bits end up going. It must be tough to just assume you're being funny.

I'm so glad people liked it. I may bring them in every six months or a year to do it, because I really enjoy it. I wonder about how it'll play on the radio.
If I can find it, there was one scene I cut because it had some sex in it, and I can post it here. If I can find it I'll put it up.

Thank you forgiving the world a little bit of ASSSSSCAT. I was worried at first since these guys had to deal with no visuals and content restrictions. But I've found that no matter the direction a show goes in Matt Besser, Andy Daly and Sean Conroy usually give us a lot to laugh about.

I don't normally comment on the sound of young america episodes, but this one was fantastic. I've recommended it to a few people. The improv was great. I'd really like to see Assscat some time at the UCB.
