I really enjoy the Podthoughts, so I thought I might start up a thread to suggest additional podcasts for Brill to review. (I'm not sure if this sort of thing belongs in "The Shows", but the initial Podthoughts announcement appeared here, so I'm goin' with my gut.)
My hoped-for Podthought is In Our Time with Melvyn Bragg from BBC Radio 4. It's my second favorite show, right behind TSOYA. Each week, Bragg & co. cover such awesome topics as Albert Camus, genetic mutation, antimatter, 17th-century print culture, Socrates and the Encyclopédie. Only one is available on iTunes at a time, but the whole archive is streamable from the web site.

This is a great idea for a thread. Ian's never short of podcasts to cover, but I'm sure he'll find great suggestions here.

How about the tech video podcast Diggnation? I'd love to hear someone else's thoughts about this show, I've only heard positive reviews from people but these people were regular users of Digg. I'd love to see some outside perspective.

Really? I always thought for a "digg podcast" it didn't have a lot to do with digg besides the fact that they got their topics from the site.
Also, another good video podcast that's produced by the same company that Diggnation is produced by is the Totally Rad Show. you should check thias one out as well.

I listen to diggnation, (on the go, like all my podcasts) but I've never understood why people would sit and watch Kevin and Alex sit on a couch and look at their laptops.

Hey thanks everybody! I've already got this week's podcast chosen but I'm definitely going to take a look at what you guys have here.
I did think of doing In Our Time but the fact that they only have the current week's podcast available kind of turns me off. Since it has been requested I will try it, though. I'll just have to go week by week to get a sense of the show instead of downloading four episodes at once, which is how I usually do it. In the meantime there are plenty more shows for me to go over, of course

For a little diversity, how about a gaming podcast? I really like 1UP.com's Retronauts, which takes an alternatively reverent/irreverent look at older videogame series, systems and genres. I'm barely even playing videogames these days but I always enjoy these podcasts.

I enjoy Dan Carlin's Hardcore History, although it isn't updated too regularly. IOT suggested by the previous poster is great too.

Does anyone follow any really good political or news podcasts? I don't care about bias, I prefer well reasoned analysis to any sort of party or ideological adherence. I've followed some BBC shows and the Economist and Guardian podcasts but I'd like to find a more in-depth show.

I like Dan Carlin's Common Sense, although it may not be exactly what you are looking for. He takes on a topic or two a week and tries to be as unbiased as possible. I haven't been listening to it very long, but the few I have heard were well reasoned and presented in a very interesting fashion.
Another suggestion to check out is Skeptoid. They debunk pseudo science in pop culture. Things like the ionic bracelets that supposedly relieved pain.
Also the Classic Tales podcast. They are good for long walks or travel.

I just posted my review yesterday Aaron. I loved this subject although I wish the hosts could make the show a lot tighter. Still, I can really get into an argument over The Lost Levels vs. Super Mario Bros. 2/Doki Doki Panic.

Saw it. Good job.
Yeah, it does definitely drag at times (I wonder how much they edit) but I'm strangely fascinated by videogame nostalgia and I'm not really sure why. Minutiae like version comparisons interests me too.
So that's why I enjoy it.
