I wasn't familiar with Ariel's work, but I have to say that she was absolutely charming. I am going to check out her graphic novels because she was just so damn delightful.

Her books are every bit as charming as she is. Reading them was such an exciting trip into someone else's high school years.

I'm going to check out the books too. I'm looking forward to it, because I've actually been helping a friend edit a collection of comics that we made when we were in early high school and while it's not a strictly autobiographical thing it's still interesting thinking back to how we viewed creative endeavors differently back then and how the storytelling changes when you get older, even for people who are still writing personal stories.

Fun fact: Lois (of Hi and Lois) is actually Beetle Bailey's sister and there have been crossovers(!) I couldn't tell if Jesse knew this when he opted to go with Beetle Bailey as a followup to the Hi and Lois joke, but a surprising number of people don't know that they're-- literally-- related.

I think this episode is why TSOYA is such a great show. I had no idea who this person was, wondered if I'd even listen to the whole episode, and found myself pretty captivated by the interview. This happens time and time again, even with the comic book experts. And, I have zero interest in comicbooks. I definitely plan on checking out her books, though so far no luck with my local Borders.

I was really excited that Ariel was on the show. I went to the same high school as her and was introduced to her comics by our mutual art teacher. Really great stuff, it was cool hearing her talk about it all.

Ariel started a new comic today with a friend, called Ariel & Kevin Invade Everything.
