I'm glad you brought this up. I love that Tambor loves the show and realizes that their can be a great movie based on A.D. that a couple of million people are dying to see. He is going to get the unappreciative youngin' (Michael Cera) on set if he has to "go to his house and drag him by his hair" (or something to that effect). Jeffery Tambor was always cool but now his awesomeness is off the charts.
Jesse, why is the full interview going to be released after two weeks? What's the reason behind not posting the interview now?

It was cool to see he's so confident about it (though tambor's been making proclamations like that for a year or two now, so it isn't exactly breaking news). Looking forward to the full show.

The podcasts always follow the radio show, which makes sense in terms of maximizing the audience. More practically, though, it's probably not even edited yet.

E! Online is reporting that Michael Cera has signed on to the movie. He was the last holdout, so things are looking so good for the Bluths that I've moved them from "Sell" to "Don't Buy".

A/V Club backs up the story.

Let's have a Don't Buy party!

I'm glad that Cera has signed on, but at this point, don't really care. How many other characters are more critical to the show: George Sr, Gob, Buster, Michael, Lindsey, Lucille & arguably Tobias (in terms of importance) (and maybe throw in the narrator). The 7th most important character doesn't come back, so fucking what. Let him go make a second playlist. Who cares about him that much?

i'd argue that george michael is one of the most important characters, because he's the most emotinally realistic. he grounds the show.

also, cera is a big name now. having him attached guarantees a bigger audience for the film.

the one thing that always bugged me is that this show MADE Cera's career. In all of his movies, he is basically still doing this same character. For him to turn around and give a hassel as far as the movie goes was ridiculous.

I agree completely. I can see the concerns that he (and his representation) may have had, that it would prevent him from growing beyond that style of role. Also, it's tough for some people to sign on without a concrete script. I'm not completely unsympathetic to his dilemma, but I'm glad the project can finally move forward.

I am not saying his role is trivial, but he certainly isn't the lynchpin. The movie might be 5% less great without him. And at this point I am kind of annoyed with him and this whole thing.

I think where I stood with it was that I knew Mitch and his writers would have been totally adept at writing a script without George Michael, if they needed to. Conceptually I'm glad he's on-board, but a movie without him wouldn't have been disastrous. They could have recast the emotional grounding elsewhere if needed.

But don't be annoyed, he's just at a pretty crucial moment in his career where he needs to defend himself from going the way of DJ Kroll. Anyhow, the movie's getting made! All is well! This is a time for much rejoicing!

Does anyone actually know why Cera was holding back? I'm sure it had something to do with his agent/manager. I just can't imagine him being as much a diva as everyone is making it out to be.
