Are you an artist or designer?

Try your luck at the second annual Maximum Fun Drive T-Shirt Contest!

Every year for our annual pledge drive we create a limited-edition Maximum Fun shirt for donors, and every year that shirt is designed by a listener like you.

Here's how it works: create a design on any color American Apparel tee, and send a web-friendly image file to our intern brian@maximumfun.org. Between now and tax day, April 15th, Brian will be posting designs in a special thread on our forum. He'll choose ten semi-finalists, and forum members will vote to determing our five finalists. A blue ribbon super-panel of t-shirt experts will then vote on the finalists and choose our winner.

Besides the satisfaction of knowing that he or she has made the world a better place, all the finalists and the eventual winner will get prizes from maximumfun.org. The overall winner will get one hundred dollars cash american.

You have until april 15th... ladies and gentlemen... start your drafting pads!

Responses to questions:
Shirts need not say "The Sound of Young America" or "Maximum Fun" in the designs, but they should be identifiably "Maximum Fun-y"
Shirts will be screenprinted, not digitally printed.
No more than 5 colors, and creative designs with less will be looked upon kindly.
Final design must be presented in vector form for printing.
No more than three entries per person.

Hey guys, this will also be the thread that I post the entries in, so check back here once things get rolling.

As a side note: make sure your entries are able to be screenprinted. I'll post everything we get here, but if it's going to be tough to screenprint, it probably won't make it past the first round.

--

This one comes from Tanner Ringerud.

--

Here's a couple from David F Starr.

--

And three from Chris Ereneta.

--

Spencer Wright's two entries.

--

Tom Deja weighs in with a trio of entries.

--

And one from Scott Nusinow.

--

Bryan Mills goes army themed.

--

Otis Runnings submitted this one.

--

And this one comes from Andy Harwood.

--

Here's an entry from Alexander Barret. He included a fun fact with his entry: the calligraphy is lifted directly from the Declaration of Independence.

--

Three from Kyle Hatch.

--

Alex Schubert with this entry.

--

Three from Kandi Cook.

--

An entry from Dan Hendrick that he hand-stippled himself.

--

One from Brian Kaas.

--

An entry from Aaron and Emily.

--

Here's one from Hadley.

--

And one from Jeff Henderson.

--

Stephen Pusateri sent this one in and said, "put this on a t-shirt and sell a million of them."

--

Patrick Giroux entered this one.

--

A pair from Brian Oertel.

--

And three from Jamie Tanner coming in right under the gun.

Are they going to be screen printed? If so, how many colors can we use?

Yes. Please no more than five, and great designs with less will be looked upon favorably by Brian the intern.

Should the first post also mention that, while the web image may be shrunk, the source needs to be either vector or of ___x___ resolution in order to be usable later? (I presume most people who'd take a serious shot at this know this, but still)

I deleted some messages to get Brian's post up to the top. Any questions or comments, please ask!

Just a concept here, but I'm thinking somebody needs to submit Mr. Morris's tighty-whitey 'dress me' photo with a photoshopped dinosaur or chicken mask.

I am in love with that exclamation mark design up there.
E Okay, both of those exclamation mark designs. Those are fantastic.

Is that excitement, or are you just pointing out that particular t-shirt's unfortunate lack of a comma?

Personally, I'd feel you on either of those points.

That shirt, though, does really capture the feeling of Let's Go, and I guess you could excuse the grammar slip up with the artist's sincere eagerness to GO!

Oh don't get me wrong, I love the design, but that shit needs an apostrophe.

Agreed, wholeheartedly!

I'm digging Starr's penguins.

I too am an apostrophe nerd who hates designers that ignore the rules of grammar just because they don't like how things look.

So basically what I'm saying is that I hate myself.

In this case I stole from an advertising spot illustration from the 1930s. Feel free to travel back in time and deliver your copy edits to the original artist.

The apostrophe may be correct but it is neither ridiculous nor awesome.

I let go.
You let go.
He or she lets go.

Of the need to proofread shirts.

P.S. I would put that penguin in my pants.
