Charlie, on former love of my life Winnie Cooper: "She just got the memo wrong on Hollywood child stars, and was supposed to get interested in meth." Priceless.

Charlie Demers, man. It's like you guys knew my birthday was coming up!
I listened to this while working out, and when Charlie said the thing about "She got the memo wrong, she was supposed to become interested in meth," I nearly fell off the elliptical machine. There were about three or four times where i had to rewind because I missed what came after a Charlie-joke due to uncontrollable giggles.

The movie Charlie was trying to recall was "A Kid in King Arthur's Court". It featured a blacksmith making rollerblades. Good stuff.

Loved to Sunday comics chat- The Family Circus may have lost it's edge, but it's still hip enough to make bizarre references to Zippy the Pinhead.

Oh! I wanted to comment on the Sunday Comics thing, too, with two things:
1) Among the list of comics that got more serious, you mentioned Sally Forth, which is currently written by Ces Marciuliano, who I think kinda aims to have it be a little more darkly humorous now. He has this webcomic that I rather enjoy http://mediumlarge.wordpress.com/ .
2) My brother (when he was in college) dated a grandniece of Bil Keane, and after they broke up he developed a particular venom towards Family Circus that was quite hilarious to me (i was, like, twelve at the time). Every Sunday he'd go on a rant about how Family Circus was sentimental tripe and wasted space in the newspaper that could be better utilized by newer and funnier comics and the Calvin and Hobbes guy knew to quit when he was ahead so why couldn't this asshole? Man, that girl fucked him up.

Fake Band/Real Band seems designed to make me feel old.
I'm glad that Dave jumped all over Archers of Loaf. Their lead singer, Eric Bachmann, is (the head of) Crooked Fingers. Music critics love both. I prefer Crooked Fingers, which removes with most of the punk elements, and sounds like a more poppy Tom Waits. They're on my list of bands to explore further.
Hot Tuna still tours a lot (currently with GE Smith). I like them a lot more in theory than in practice. A blues-jam band version of Jefferson Airplane sounds like something i should enjoy. I think they're fine, but i prefer the greatly superior Little Feat and very superior Gov't Mule.

• Furthermore, on the subject of real bands playing fake bands, did I miss a reference to ZZTop in Back to the Future Part III- or did you forget to mention it?
I'll assume you had to edit it out, because that would've sent you off on a time travel tangent, and you don't want to get you started on that...

I was told not to mention it, as it might cause us to have live in a skewed version of 2010 in which Biff has sex with all of our moms.

That's not so skewed.

Oh man. I come back from being incommunicado, eager to see what my favorite podcasts have been up to. Here's what I find:
Big Time Gene O'Neill on JJGo!
Adam Carolla on TSOYA
and the capper, Charlie Demers on SPY.
That's an all-star lineup.

It's 524 Main St. in Vancouver. It's kind of hidden during the day. I think it's just a black door with a cloud on it, and the venue is upstairs.
