Happy sesquicentennial JJGo! Now you're just like Iowa, when I was growing up. *whimsical sigh*

On the Kurt Anderson tweet and the relative popularity of non-Mad Men shows: I think Explodo made a really good point. On the other hand, Mad Men is clearly about the artistic exploration of a series of important social themes, while Swamp whatever seems to be a show about pointing and laughing at rednecks. Regardless of their ratings, it's pretty clear to me that one deserves attention and the other doesn't.

You know, I'm going to go out on a limb and say you guys weren't douches in college. I'm contemporaneous to you all in terms of when I went to college, and I think I would have much preferred the humor of TSOYA (even in its early years) to the kind of "humor" and "satire" that the so-called "funny" guys had at my school. Most of this "satire" fell into two camps:
1) "Man I hate it when I get drunk and go home with a fat chick! Women are terrible, amirite?"
and
2) "Man, I hate it when I pee in a townie's yard and the police cite me for drinking underage and violating open container laws! Fuck the police brutality in this town of 6,000 people! I'm like a white, rich, teenage Rodney King!"
You get the picture. And if I don't find it funny, well, it's because women "don't have a sense of humor." It's satire! Don't you know that?
I think one reason I love JJGo (and SPY) so much is that you all find that kind of humor repulsive, and you make fun of it. I can point to you guys as proof that you can be funny without being misogynistic fucking assholes. And for that, I adore you all. Keep it up.

On the topic of doucheyness, I think if you're not at least a little bit odd when you're younger, you are less likely to do something unconventional in adulthood. Of course, when you reach adulthood, your eccentricities have probably been smoothed over a bit, but you still wouldn't have been able to have an unconventional career if you didn't have those oddities to start with. So I don't know if I would call that being douches, but at least for me and people from my background, anyone who is a radio host for a living, or appears regularly on cable-tv channels, or is a professional comedian, or does any of the things that Jordan, Jesse, or any of their guests does is automatically a bit different. And it's highly likely that those differences were more pronounced when they were younger.
But I hasten to add that I wouldn't call that "being a douche". I fear the word "douche" may be losing some of the specificity that makes it such a fun word to throw around. In other words, I don't think "douche" should mean "anybody who's different", but I think the caller's friend may have been using it in that way.
Really interesting phone call.

I thought Savage Speedball was the most ridiculous sport until I watched a video of X-Arm. Love that the fighters use the platform as a way to attack their opponent.
Jordan, Fuel in Australia fell to the MMA crowd about a year ago. I don't think the Daily Habit airs anymore - it used to at about 3am. These days it's UFC, motorsports (mainly drift racing and monster trucks), G4 original programming and Bikini Beach, with action sports fitting in everywhere in between.

X-Arm?
Wait, that wasn't a joke?
Because it was the funniest joke I've heard in a long time, and I was all sad because it came one day too late for me to share at a table of people who were genuinely discussing UFC with great intensity. I heard the "arm wrestling, but you can punch and kick each other" and burst into laughter and immediately wanted a time machine.
But you're saying it's real?
I can't decide if that means it's more funny or less funny.

Every time I hear Todd Levin on a podcast I want him to be my pal.
Also, did anyone else find that Jordan's levels were noticeably higher than Todd's and Jesse's? Maybe it was the headphones I was using but I had to keep turning it up/down depending on who was talking.

Thanks for mentioning this. Jordan tends to be a loud/soft talker, and the compression sometimes makes him loud/loud rather than evening it out. We'll work on it.

I'm right there with you. I'll also add Janet Varney and Dave Holmes to the list.
I don't remember where I read it, but recently someone pointed out how you guys have been killing it lately. I'd like to submit this episode as further proof.

I have to pick up some Tastykakes to mail to my cousin anyhow.
Do you guys have any specific preference for snack cake flavors? Chocolate? Coconut? Butterscotch? Coffeecake? Tastykake brand mini donuts? THEY HAVE ALL OF THESE.

I noticed it too, but mainly when he was hollering for Tastycakes.
Btw, Jesse, that Brian Wilson interview really is chock full of craziness & awesomeness. My boss came into my office yesterday while I was listening to it and laughing, and I gave him a couple of highlights. He doesn't even like baseball (He's from the UK so it's not in his blood) and he agreed it was awesome. Now I want to marry Brian Wilson. And baseball isn't even my favorite sport. LOL

I have the same problem as Jordan, looking back on anything I do in the past and only seeing it as douche-y. I don't know what it is.

1. How far in the past before it crosses into douche-y territory (assuming you don't think of your current behavior as douche-y)
2. Why is your podcast in Icelandic if you live in Sweden?
